CRISIS PLAN AND INFORMATION
Throughout this school year a committee has worked diligently on revising the crisis management manual for the district. This extensive document should be completed and presented to the board of education for approval by June. Due to recent events, we have been forced to analyze our building crisis plans to assure preparedness in case of an emergency. Through our department chair meetings, we have comprised a plan in which procedures are in place for a variety of scenarios (lockdown, extended lockdown, on-site and off-site evacuation, emergency dismissal, etc.). All staff members have received copies of this plan and become familiar with their roles in the event of crisis.
As parents, you are a vital member of the entire educational process. In the event of a crisis, your actions and adherence to the information below will be critical to ensuring the safety of your student as well as other students in our building.
Adherence to the following recommendations will assist in preparation for a crisis:
Ø Maintain updated emergency information cards at the school. Any change in address, phone numbers, additional contacts, etc. should be reported to the high school attendance office.
Ø If your son / daughter takes medications daily, provide the school with a three day supply and specific instructions for the administration of the medication.
Adherence to the following in the event of an emergency will ensure the safety of your child and other children:
Ø DO NOT COME DIRECTLY TO SCHOOL. Wait to receive information from the phone chain, web-site, and / or school hotline 440-247-5518.
Ø In the event of a lockdown: Do not come to school. You will be notified through the phone chain and directed on student dismissal.
Ø In the event of an evacuation on-site: Do not come to school. The police will have blocked all entrances to the campus until the situation is under control. Students will be dismissed only when safe and with parental consent. In this situation only a parent can grant permission for a student to drive or walk home.
Ø In the event of an evacuation off-site: Do not come to school. The police will have blocked all entrances and assist us to our off-site location. In this situation, students would be transported home by bus or released directly to parents. No student will be allowed to walk home or return to campus to drive home. You will be notified via the phone chain and hotline.
Finally, please understand that the safety and well being of our students is our top priority. We will continue to develop, modify, and communicate our plan with staff members and parents. In addition, please refer to the district web-site for further information. If you have any questions regarding this information, please feel free to contact the high school office.
