The Chagrin Falls 5th Grade Intermediate School Junior Girl Scout Troop's Service Project for their Bronze Award was a big success. They collected nearly 100 shoeboxes filled with new toys, toiletries, games, etc. for distribution to children whose lives have been adversely affected due to natural disasters and poverty. The girls packaged the items and arranged for shipment to a North Carolina collection site for distribution to children throughout the United States -- just in time for the holidays. The girls want to send out a big "thank you" to all of the students at Gurney Elementary who participated, Gurney School Principal, Dr. Rachel Jones who helped the girls coordinate and organize their service project, and to Ms. Gail F. Shaw, Owner/Operator of Mail Boxes Etc. in the Chagrin Falls Giant Eagle Plaza who generously mailed out the boxes to the collection site. Such generosity gives our community a wonderful example of service to others and shows that it is really better to give than to receive. The girls had their Bronze Award pin and Certificate presented by South Russell Mayor Matthew E. Brett at a special meeting at South Russell Village Hall last week. In addition, Mayor Brett read a proclamation honoring the troop and presented each scout with an official South Russell pin for their uniforms. Troop 1689 Junior Girl Scout members include: Victoria Samuel, Elizabeth Martin, Victoria Fant, Mrs. Yasmina Martin (Leader), Ms. Lisa Russo-Fant (Co-Leader), and Mrs. Leslie Samuel.
